Fall Camping

Who doesn't love a stroll through the woods on a warm day,  sitting around a fire on cool nights and roasting marshmallow's to make s'mores?  We recently spent a few days camping.  Although the preparing is quite involved (this isn't a hotel) the time spent is well worth the reward.  We just spent 4 beautiful days on 88 acres all by ourselves.  We did not even have phone service.  HOW WONDERFUL!!!  This is really getting away from it all.  Following are a few pictures.  Although they do not give justice to the beauty of all this nature, I hope viewing them puts you in a place of relaxation.

Here we spent a little time collecting flat rocks for rock-skipping.  I am not able to do this at all, but my hubby can manage to skip a rock 8 or 9 times.  My son enjoyed looking along the waterline for fossils.  I did not need to know that he found a petrified rattler, it was very small, but the thought of snakes is something I try not to think about.  Another reason why I enjoy so much going in the cooler weather.  I do not want to ruin my enjoyment with worrying about snakes.

The next couple of pictures are of my husband and son on the open field where they could do archery.  One picture is of Baylee (yes the dogs got to go camping too) where she was watching the event as well.  This Beagle/Jack Russell mix was so overwhelmed with all the new smells.  It was nice having her with us.

Most of the property is foot marked but not necessarily trail marked.  We have been going to Camp Rotary for years.  We've had church outings of all kinds.  One favorite memory is when we accompanied our youth group of about 200.  Paint ball, capture the flag, cooking outdoors, stories around the fire.  So many wonderful memories.

The next pictures are of the outdoor boyscout chapel, the mess hall, the bunkhouse we stayed in + the original bunkhouse and a few more woods.  You will love the steep staircase that was built to get down into the ravine where the creek runs through.

This tree caught our eye when we were walking through the woods.  The way the sun was shining down on this tree was awesome.  Sadly, the tree is dead, but it was as if it were receiving special attention.  It's time had come and now it was being acknowledged for the stand it took for many years.

Our son and Baylee.  We had just unloaded the truck, got the bunks prepared for the evening, and put the food in the messhall.  This was one of the first three pictures taken on the property.  It was a beautiful day.
